My Parents

Queen Shenaynay

Incredibly, these photos were taken on the very day my parents met one another, at a singing school held at a church in Memphis. Aren't they stunning? It's no wonder they fell for each other on first glance! Dreamy. Mother had just graduated from high school and was on her way to college to major in voice.

Daddy's picture is shaped funny because my mother, a teenager crazy in love, cut everyone else out of it!

Those of you who know how my Daddy preaches with his handkerchief will note that he loved his hanky blanky even way back in 1956! He was 17 here, going into his senior year in high school that fall, and was already preaching. I would love to hear those sermons now.

Q.S., your parents look quite stunning in those pictures! I find it ironic that those pictures were taken on the day they met each other.

(Ahem) I deleted my previous comment. I misspelled a word...it was driving me crazy!

FSLL, I see a great bit of resemblance between you and your grandmother when she was your age.

I love the fact that the picture of Elder Sonny has "the handkerchief" in it. Classic photo.

Very cute couple.

Isn't Dadaw handsome?
I love grandmother's dress, too, but Andrew, making a dress is very hard...especially one like that!

Aye, good things happen in Memphis, do they not? Did they meet at Collierville or Morris Memorial?

Morris Memorial. Elder Roland Green was teaching. Remind me to tell you sometime -- it's a GREAT story!

Not that I follow fashion, but that style of dress in now officially in! You can already buy patterns at the fabric store. But I would make it even if it wasn't in style.
