Pie? What pie?

Spuddy Buddy loves to crank our handy dandy apple peeler/corer/slicer gadget (the rare gadget that actually is as brilliant as claimed, and actually does get daily use), so he is always game to help us make anything apple-ish.

So, today he and I made a rather remarkable apple pie (eight big Jonagolds, yum). Dutch style, with the crunchy cinnamon & butter topping. It was not a small pie, no no.

We removed it from the oven at 5 PM. It is now 10 PM. The pie is gone. As in, not one crumb remains. Five people. Eight apples. Five hours. And for three of those hours, we weren't even home. Dude.

I have a truly astonishing family. Astonishing and so happy.

If I had that gadget I'm sure I would have many people offering to help peel apples, too.

Apple pie is my favorite.

Oh, and by the way, dearest Queen, you would greatly lift my spirits if you would condescend to visit my blog. I know you have no time, but perhaps since no one else is posting you will have a free second?
Muchest love,
your obedient servant,
and all that stuff,

Princess I! I somehow missed the advent of your royal bloggishness! I'm there, baby, I'm there.

And you must know that Queens can make time, especially for princesses.

The apple-peeler-corer-slicer is truly an amazing tool. Pamperd Chef is a genius for coming up with such a gadget!

By the way, the afore mentioned gadget can also be used to make apple bundles. Mmm! My mouth begins to water even at the thought of those delectable bundles.

Pampered Chef invented these? I would think they've been around a lot longer than PC has. Ours gets so much use that it sits out on the cabinet most of the time.

What is an apple bundle? DO tell.

We have one of those gadgets too. Ours does not get as much use as yours. The pie sounded delicious!

Well, our apple-peeler-corer-slicer is made by Pamperd Chef. Who made yours? I didn't know it existed outside of PC.

An apple bundle is...a few thin slices of apple, wrapped in a crescent roll, topped with cinnamon, butter, and orange zest, and baked in the oven. They smell so good! If you want the recipe, I can give it to you.

Oh -- you mean apple dumplings!

YUM. Yes, those can make life worth living.

Pampered Chef also sells a particular bread knife as well as a few other items that are not original with them. I dunno. I guess they bought the rights to market these items with their name on them. I have seen the very same apple p-c-s marketed under at least three different names (incl.PC). Ours came from/through Lehman's catalog many years ago. Gotta love those things. I've also done potatoes and pears.(Pears from the tree here on Eddings Hill are roundish.)

Viva la apples and apple pies! Yours sounds delectable!

Funny thing though. I used to not like apple pie at all. Too sweet; the apple flavor got lost. Then I tasted one made by ithillian princess' mother and I finally knew what a good apple pie should be. Years later, Queen's Aunt Janet gave me a recipe and I've been a fan ever since. But only of Good apple pies. Not just any apple pie. Fasolala's "lemony" comment lets me know I would love yours too.

I didn't know we still owned that peeler-corer-slicer. It doesn't get used much because Mother, being the health nut she is, doesn't believe in pie. Unless it contains Splenda or some other sugar substitute. But don't let that fool you, she really is a great mom.
